POLICIES

Admission Requirements - The admission requirements for Carlson Travel Academy include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Personal interview
  • Entrance evaluation
  • Proficiency in basic typing skills with a minimum speed of 20 words per minute
  • Effective communication skills in the English language

To be considered for admission, a completed Information Form must first be submitted to the Academy. A representative from the school will contact the applicant to arrange for a personal interview to assess the applicant's qualifications. This interview also provides the applicant an opportunity to learn more about the Academy. The interview, entrance and typing evaluations will determine acceptance into the program.

As enrollment is limited, the personal interview should be requested as far in advance as possible. Students may, however, enroll through the first day of class on a space available basis. If accepted into the program, the applicant will sign and receive a copy of the Enrollment Agreement. The enrollment fee will be paid at this time. The student will receive written notification of acceptance into the school.

Student Housing - Information and assistance with housing will be provided upon request. However, it is the responsibility of the student to arrange for housing while attending the school.

Progress Evaluation - Student evaluation is based on homework assignments, classroom work, quizzes and exams. Grades will be based on the following scale:

A: 94-100, B: 88-93, C: 81-87, D: 75-80, F: Below 75

Students must maintain a C average to successfully complete the course. If at any time during the course the average falls below a C, the student will be placed on probation at the discretion of the Director. The student will generally be given a two week period to improve the grade point average. If satisfactory improvement is not made, the student may be terminated and readmittance will not be permitted. Student transcripts after graduation may be obtained by sending a written request to the school indicating the student's name, address, phone, social security number and date of graduation. There is a $2.00 fee for this service.

Graduation Requirements - Each student is required to complete the entire Travel Career Development Program with a C grade point average or better in order to be eligible for graduation. Students will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon the successful completion of the course. No credit will be given for prior educational or work experience.

Recognition of Excellence - Students achieving a 96% or above grade average and who have been absent no more than six hours will be placed on the Director's List of Academic Excellence. This achievement will be noted in the student's permanent file.

Attendance - Students are expected to attend all classes as scheduled and to be on time for the start of each class. Attendance and tardiness records will be available to potential employers for review.

If a student is absent over 18 hours during the course, the student may be put on probation for a two week period or asked to drop the course at the discretion of the Director. If put on probation, the student is required to be present and on time for the entire probation period. If not, the student will be asked to drop the course. After the probation period, if the student is absent more than six hours, the student will be asked to drop the course. Excessive tardiness will also be handled in the same manner.

Any student who will be absent is asked to notify the school office ahead of time. The student is responsible for obtaining any work missed while absent. If the student misses a quiz, in-class assignment or exam, it may be made up at the convenience of the staff.

Regarding a leave of absence, a student may withdraw from one session and start in another session within six months on a space available basis.

Placement After Graduation - Assisting graduates with career placement within the travel industry is a priority at Carlson Travel Academy. The Travel Career Development Program provides assistance with resumes, interviewing skills and job search techniques. Because of our association with a major travel company consisting of over 4,100 offices, we can offer placement assistance worldwide. We also maintain contact with many other travel employers regarding placement. Although employment cannot be guaranteed, placement assistance will be given to any graduate who has satisfied all academic and financial obligations with the school.

Student Conduct - Carlson Travel Academy expects students to conduct themselves in a mature, professional manner. The school reserves the right to put on probation or terminate any student whose actions are deemed inappropriate by the school.

Dress Code - Carlson Travel Academy provides an on-the-job atmosphere. Therefore, students are asked to dress in a professional, businesslike manner. No jeans, shorts, tennis shoes or T-shirts are allowed, except on designated casual days.

Changes in Curriculum, Tuition and Fees - The school reserves the right to revise the curriculum, with prior state approval, in order to stay abreast of changes in the travel industry. The school also reserves the right to make adjustments to the tuition and fees. Once the en-rollment fee has been paid for a specific class, the student is protected from any tuition increases.

Refunds - Any refunds due to termination or withdrawal from the course will be made according to the refund policy as indicated in this catalog and/or on the Enrollment Agreement.

Carlson Travel Academy reserves the right to cancel a class session prior to the scheduled starting date if less than six students are enrolled. All money paid will be re-funded in full or may be applied to a future class.
