Lanai

Lanai is secluded and rustic. Once home to the world's largest pineapple plantation, the island now has two luxurious resorts, the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel.

Hulopoe Bay here is a rich marine reserve and attracts divers worldwide, while Munroe Trail brings out explorers in four-wheel drive vehicles. Lanai City has a gallery of local artists whose works are inspired by the island's unspoiled character.

Offshore Lanai is the repository of a World War II ship attached to a treacherous reef, and an on-shore refuge is aptly named Shipwreck Beach.

A short walk inland reveals some of Hawaii's best preserved petroglyphs that are among Hawaii's prized historical remnants.
